The Novatel Wireless portable WiFi hotspot, known as the MiFi, is finally available from Bell. It only comes in white, with that huge Bell logo on it, but don’t be fooled, it’s smaller than it looks; the thing is designed to fit in a pocket, so you don’t have to haul around a bag with you. The pricing is really great, starting at 99.95 on a 3-year contract, and going up 50$ every year you add on, except for the off-contract, that’s strangely the same price of the 1-year contract; so whats the moral here? Don’t get a contract if you don’t have too. Strangely, looking at the specifications, I noticed that it uses 7.2 mbps downloads. That, to me, is stupid, because this device is supposed to take advantage of that HSPA network which was released about a month ago. Also, it uses 802.11 b/g, no N there, so that won’t be as fast, but it doesn’t really matter, because B is enough to take care of 7.2 mbps. The plans are the same as any other Data plans, and you can see them here, if you don’t want to leave my website, the plans start at 30$ for 500mb, and go up to 85$ for 5mb (which is the max).
